The Kildare Place Model School was founded in 1811 by the Society for the Promotion of the Poor in Ireland. Located in Dublin, it taught women to teach in primary schools, where needlework formed an important part of the curriculum. Dorothy Tyrrell’s sampler book displays impressive needlework skills, including miniature clothes and demonstration stitches in a variety of techniques.
