One of two guest books owned by Mrs. Gilbert W. Chapman (Bobsy Goodspeed) including signatures from artists entertained in her Chicago home as well as abroad in Paris, London, New York, Gstaad, etc., from 1934 to 1944. features autographs and lush drawings from Matisse, Chagall, Man Ray, and Duchamp, among others. Mrs. Chapman and her pet parrot, Polly, are frequent subjects of the drawings and illustrations. Other notable autographs in the guest book are by well known literary figures, composers, and other society figures of the thirties and forties.

For example, Duchamp’s sketch and autograph in the guest book shows a portrait of Mrs. Chapman loosely detailed beyond silhouette, lounging on a Paris balcony. Another by Matisse depicts a woman, this time in profile, also likely a sketch of Mrs. Chapman.
